As written in the outline, we were challenged to design a product or service that could more accurately portray our real life communication methods and the way in which we interact with friends and strangers.

We started off by looking at the existing social networks, such as Friendster and Orkut. We read many articles on them and spoke with people who are a part of them. We drew two conclusions from our research. One is that many people create fake profiles. The second conclusion is that after a few months of using these services many members were bored and wanted to know what was next. We decided to tackle the issue of fake profiles by collecting objective data about people, so that they would not have the chance to give false information.

The second problem of keeping people interested in our service was a bit trickier. We decided that we would have to give our social network a purpose. The main feature would not be just about meeting new people. We wanted people to feel connected, while doing something they were comfortable with. After iterating through many different purposes such as restaurants, health, and shopping, we finally settled on music.

Music seemed like a natural foundation for people to come together. We feel an emotional connection to music. It is both personal and at the same time social. Our aim was to create a system that respected the personal moments people have while listening to music, and at the same time reconnect them with the world outside their personal space.

USER INTERVIEWS
For part of our research we spoke with many people who have mp3 players, specifically iPod fanatics who said it was the best purchase they had made in a long time. To view details of what iPod users had to say about the product and how they responded to our questions please read the transcript and view our video

SOFTWARE DEMO
Our Team has created a demo of our software, where you can experience some of Awaire's functionality first hand. This is only a demo and we are still working on many parts of the software, but currently you can interact with the player, tune-in and explore groupie and rockstar features. Begin by creating a username and password and then you are free to play!

PRODUCT DESIGN
This summer we have started developing physical models of the Aura device. Our first step was developing initial foam core models to test out several forms and functionality. As part of our product research we have been looking at several leading mobile devices to gain inspiration. We plan on conducting a round of user tests to receive feedback on these first forms and then will start development of more final versions.
